I had no idea that the original Masters of the Universe movie came out 30 years ago. It’s totally cheesy and cringeworthy and no where near what the source material, but it’s gained a huge following among He-Man fans out there. I’ve seen it many times myself and I laugh at it but I still love it. Here’s a video by CineFix that tells 7 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About the Movie. I TOTALLY had no idea about PigBoy cameo.

By the way, did you know that concept art was made for She-Ra to make an appearance in the Masters of the Universe movie? The movie was limited but I feel like her being a part of it would have totally been so badass! The concept art below was by William Stout.

Great movie! It was adult enough for all audiences to enjoy but kidified enough for children to love as well. It plays homage to the original 1990’s series but also opens up the door for a new universe to expand upon. I love it myself. Spoilers involved in this review!

Justice League Dark – The DC Animated movie has come out. A magical supernatural problem has happened around the planet that the Justice League cannot handle on their own. They realize that the event is magical in nature and that outside magical superheroes are needed to help. Constantine is brought in and he rounds up several other supernatural characters to fight this foe. Great movie with some minor flaws, but very entertaining. Check out my thoughts on the movie in this video.

Jogens

I used to pride myself on being in touch with cinema, both old and modern. This included many hyped up movies and those that go under the radar of most movie goers. In the past couple of years I have let most of that knowledge lapse to focus solely on mainstream movies, because…reasons? I don’t know why. But anyways, I really feel like watching something positive that is considered an LGBT movie. There are a lot of great gay movies out there. What is one that you like? Below I’m listing a couple that I love watching myself.

Big Eden 2

Big Eden- City Man goes back to his small hometown and has two potential love interests. Very positive image of a small community and has a great ending to it.

cjybm3SNPMfslAZ6QlZBSGENNAJ

Trick- This was the first gay movie I had ever seen. Let me correct that, it was the first gay movie I had watched that did not make gay men into a joke. Two guys who are gay but being gay is normalized to the point that it feels as though sexuality does not matter. As should be.

Eating out 2
Any of the Eating Out movies. No, they are not porn movies. But they show as much nudity as many straight movies do. Most start with a hetero-flexible character that has gay character friends that intertwine with the plot. All of the movies have pretty awesome endings and sends extremely positive vibes.

Beautiful thing 2

Bautiful Thing- Two boys that fall in love. It is a coming of age film and love is a huge component. Basic, but still a great watch even today.

4th man out

4th Man Out – Four friends that have been best buddies since childhood, one of which comes out on his 24th birthday. The friends come to grips with this fact and then make it clear that they want to help their gay friend find a guy. Very cute movie with another great ending.

SONY DSC

Paternity Leave- Very UNUSUAL movie in the sense that men are able to become pregnant in this world. Very happy ending to it and keep your mind open to alternate realities. Don’t think about it too much, or your mind may explode as to the specifics of male anatomy.

Last Straight Man

The Last Straight Man- Closeted man is throwing a bachelor party for his best buddy, who he happens to have a crush on. I have literally been there and done that in the past. I will not go into details, but it has a great ending to it.

Latter Days

What are your favorite positive LGBT movies that you like?

Dantes

Latter Days Complete.Movie_Snapshot

Latter Days- a 2003 movie about a closeted gay man fighting his hormones and the next door guy who is determined to have sex with him. Well there’s a lot more than that. The next door man, Christian (ironic name) is a jerk at the beginning, but grows a heart and eventually falls for the Mormon boy. This movie came out from TLA Releasing in 2003 and it was a great movie and I still enjoy watching it today. Check out my thoughts on this movie in the video below.

According to BleedingCool News the next Blade film, which will now be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, may focus on Blade’s 16 year old daughter, Fallon Grey. Wesley Snipes has also expressed interest in returning to the role again. It is unclear whether or not Marvel would have him return or recast his character.

This new character has not been officially introduced into the Marvel Comic Book Universe as of this post, but has been identified as being through the description by Blade Comic Book Writer Tim Seeley as:

“She’s a sort of ‘anti-Peter Parker.’ She’s popular, she’s well-liked and it seems like the world is her oyster. But, the expectations that come with being so damn perfect are starting to break her down, and that’s before she learns she’s the heir to a Daywalking-Monster-Stabbing-Empire…”

Personally, I would love to have both Blade and Fallon in separate comic books, but when it comes to the Cinematic Universe, I think it makes much more sense to INTRODUCE Blade first and then bring in his daughter later. It is more likely that the previous Blade films will not be taken into account, however the films exist in a way that they could be taken into account being that they do not actually seem to affect the other Marvel Cinematic characters that have existed already. For all the viewer knows, vampires have existed this whole time and none of the Mavel Heroes have any knowledge of it because they are all dealing with the other cosmic events taking place.

Blade Vampire King

I am all for more female superheroes being introduced into the Marvel Universe. They definitely need it, but Blade is the comic book movie that reinvigorated the superhero movie franchise in the 2000’s, even before Tobey Macguire’s Spider-Man. I do not want to sacrifice Blade so that a female counterpart can be brought in to replace him.

Blade Punisher Daredevil

I bet Blade would make a fracking awesome Netflix series too. I could just imagine him teaming up with or fighting Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones or Luke Cage and Iron Fist in their future team ups. All fans are anxiously waiting to see the inevitable Defenders or Street Avengers Team to be made. Blade would make an excellent addition that could probably lead them in the fight against the supernatural. That could be epic on so many levels. What do you think about this? Do you think that a Vampire Hunter movie based on Blade’s daughter would work?

art-of-being-straight-rosen-2

This is definitely not the best movie out there and the ending is just an ending. Nothing great and very anti-climatic. Check out my thoughts on this one and let me know what you think of it yourself.

He-Man Master of the Universe

Awesome news! We have confirmation from Variety.com now that Christopher Yost, the writer for the third installment of the Thor movies -Thor:Ragnarok. That’s not all Yost has done, but it seems to be the biggest entertainment piece of late that everyone focuses on the most. Needless to say, I am pretty excited. Wary that this will fall through like so many other failed attempts to make a Masters of the Universe film, but still very hopful.

If you’re a hardcore He-Man and The Masters of the Universe fan, then you know the pain of waiting for a new live action movie. Fans have been teased for years that a new movie will one day be made since the 1980s version of Masters of the Universe hit theaters. Many, many, many people hated it, but it has grown a bit of a cult following in a small population of He-Man fans.

Tim Drake reunion with Superboy

Christopher Yost also wrote for the cartoon series X-Men: Evolution as well as (Avengers) Earth Mightiest Heroes. Both shows were incredible and I believe are some of the better planned out series that I’ve seen. He has also written my favorite comic book character of all time- Tim Drake- in his Red Robin series from DC Comics. So he definitely has the geek credibility under his belt. Can he write He-Man and Masters of the Universe to be faithful to the source material, but still make it relevant to modern cinema? I hope so and I’m going to be waiting for this to develop with very positive thinking.

Castle Grayskull

I am sure that everyone is aware of the background of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, but in case anyone is not aware, here’s a short synopsis. Originally He-Man was a powerful barbarian warrior that was modeled off of Conan. He lived on the planet of Eternia where he fought to keep evil from taking an ancient power that resided within an equally ancient castle called Grayskull. His greatest foe was a skull faced villain called Skeletor. The planet possessed lots of magic and sorcery but was also technologically advanced. Later the story was altered and He-Man was written to be the alter ego to an Eternian Prince named Adam son of King Randor. Adam was a half human/half Eternian twin, whose sister, Adora, was abducted as a baby by an evil force even greater than Skeletor, Hordak of the Horde Empire. The series continued on with Adam possessing the power of He-Man who fought evil on Eternia as having two identities that was secret to all but a few people that were close to him.

Geo Club

Geography Club is a gay coming of age movie that’s based on a book by the same name. In fact, there’s a book series based on these characters. From what I read online, the books are pretty good and easy reads. I may pick them up some point down the line. Here’s my thoughts on the first movie that was made.

GBF

This week’s gay movie review is -G.B.F. This isn’t a isn’t a romantic comedy. It’s not a teen drama, it’s barely a coming out story. But it is cute and it has lots of funny moments in it. It’s definitely enjoyable if you turn your mind off. Also, don’t think too much about how it could be insulting to gay culture. Here’s my thoughts on it, and let me know if you’ve seen it.
