Saurod Masters of the Universe Classics (4).Movie_Snapshot

Saurod – the LAST of the Movie figures to be released from the Masters of the Universe Classics series. For now at least. Hopefully we’ll get more, but as it stands, he is the last. He’s an awesome figure. Check out my thoughts on him in the video below.

Muppet Show

With a lot of hype over the past several months, The Muppets premiere today, 9/22/2015 on ABC. Many of the promos have shown more adult tendencies towards its characters that appeal to a wide range of audiences. More specifically towards adults, but still having a lot of the basic child characteristics that originally made the Muppets so popular in the first place.

Million Puppet

Unfortunately not everyone is excited about this new rendition of Jim Henson’s creations having a new show. The organization known as the organization known as One Million Moms who have been shown to be vastly conservative in the past regarding all forms of media and advertisements, released this statement about the Muppets premiere:

“ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined “The Muppets.” How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?
Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time. 1MM and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs.”

Miss Piggy

With that being said, the One Million Mom (1MM?) literally just informed all kids of the show that their parents do NOT want them to watch, even though the factor of the show being about Muppets already gave them a bit of notability but also gave a huge amounts of publicity to a fledgling show that may have had doubts to its success. Way to go One Million Moms! You just helped secure the success of this show.

Gonzo

Let’s be clear, the Muppets will be more adult, somewhat. Sexual references will be made, that’s been clear. Relationships will also be made, and from the promos, it looks like Kermit may be in the center of several issues that many adults have been a part of from the beginning of forever. Current events will be discussed and the drama of politics may even be brought up. But this is a prime time TV show. What did 1MM think was going to happen? This show does not appear to be geared towards young children anyway. It is on at during Primetime and looks like it is geared towards adults, young adults and teenagers. Regardless though, if younger children were to watch the show, is it so awful that parents actually TALK to their children about some of these references and explain what is being discussed?

Statler and Waldorf

On another note, this will not be the play Avenue Q and I do not think that we will see Muppets have sex on screen. More than likely, Kermit and the gang will be in some sexual situations but actual sex shown on a non-cable TV show, very unlikely. Innuendos will more than likely be made, but is that new? Innuendos have been done on TV on both adult and kid’s shows, again, since forever. Look at the Flintstones, look at Animaniancs, look any any cartoon from any kids show made in this century. It is going to happen.

I am excited to see the Muppets and I am watching the show tonight! Are you going to watch it or do you have it DVR’d to watch later? Usually I do not watch stuff live, but I have a strange motivation to watch it right away for some reason.

Tiger Orange (4).Movie_Snapshot

I just saw the movie Tiger Orange, that stars Mark Strano and Frankie Valenti, who both play gay brothers. This movie was great. It had a lot of feels to it and the story was unique in it’s own way. I was very impressed with the pacing and I have to say that I got a bit emotional at points. Check out my review below. If you have seen it, let me know what you thought of it.

Merlin cover

You know what was a great show? BBC’s Merlin. The series was 5 seasons long and each season was 13 episodes long. Also, each season moved the young sorcerer closer and closer to being the famous sorcerer that we all know from even the most basic of Arthurian mythology. Merlin himself was played by Colin Morgan and Prince Arthur was played by Bradley James. Both were excellent actors and perfect for these roles.

Merlin and Arthur Cute

Although Arthurian mythology has been retold in many stories with lots of differences from one adaptation to the next, the series itself took even more liberties in it’s changes with the development of its characters. For instance, Merlin and Arthur are the same age in this show while usually Arthur is depicted as being much younger than Merlin. Many stories even go as far to show that Merlin is a parental figure for Arthur while Arthur is still a child, so that in itself is drastically different.

Arthur and merlin Cute

I have never done a video on Merlin as I got into the series about mid through the 3 season. By the time I caught up, the show was over. But one of the aspects about the show that I saw immediately, was the bond between the characters of Arthur and Merlin. Merlin played a bit of bumbling servant to Arthur who hid his magical talent from Arthur since magic was outlawed within the kingdom. But the two characters were very close to each other. Arthur pretended to only regard Merlin as his servant, but in actuality, Arthur genuinely cared about Merlin. A lot.

Merlin and Arthur

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that they were together romantically, but there was definitely a BROmantic thing going on between them. I sometimes think that the writers made some scenes with the specific intent on making the viewer want to see the two together. On some scenes, I was thinking, damn, why don’t they just kiss and lay down and cuddle with each other already. It seems like they want to do that. By the way, if you were a Merlin and Arthur shipper, you were called a Murther.

Arthur Hug

I won’t go into the ending of the series, but I definitely feel as though a follow up movie could have been made for a firm closure to everything that the show created. I do love the series and the ending we got was somewhat satisfying, but I felt as though there was a possibility that something else could be included. I’ve costumed as Merlin at a Renaissance festival a while back and it received a lot of praise. I may do that again one day. Regardless of that, did you watch the show? Did you like it?

Dragon Con 2015 Part 2 (2).Movie_Snapshot

So much happened over such a short weekend. Here’s a compilation of the videos that I took over the weekend. I had a lot of fun. I will be uploading one more short good bye video and then my obligatory montage that I do every year. I have to decide on a song first though. Anyone have a good suggestion?

Luke Cage

I have been waiting to hear confirmation as to what the cast and plot of the up coming Luke Cage series will be. If you can’t tell, I loved the Netflix Daredevil series. I personally think that it is the best superhero series that I have ever seen. I know that statement will cause other fanboys to go up in frenzy to quote other shows that are better, but it is my personal opinion. However, with the announcement that there will be several other series that are also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that these series will also be Netflix series and these series will more than likely have some crossovers with each other (or at the very least references with the other street level Avengers/Defenders) I have to admit that my geekyness went through the roof.

Jessica and Luke

The Jessica Jones (aka Jewel in the comics) series, is set to air on November 20, 2015 and the role of her future husband, Luke Cage was already announced to be played by Mike Colter. Until recently though, we were unaware as to what the plot and who was going to be playing in his supporting cast.

The plot has been outlined by Marvel.com as:

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Ali as Cottonmouth

Mahershala Ali will be playing Cottonmouth. Granted, there are two people that have been Cottonmouth in Marvel Comics and I doubt that he will have this purple snake costume as he does in the comic. But I can hope right?

misty knight

Simone Missick will play Misty Knight. Misty is a police detective that is looking into Luke’s mysterious past and I hope she has her comic book hair style, so bad! I love her look in the comics. She is incredibly cool and I think that Simone will definitely do her character justice!

Theo as Shades

Theo Rossi will play Shades. Who I admit, I do not know very much about his character from the comics. His description from Marvel is that he is a “a ruthless criminal with ties to Cage’s mysterious past.” So that could be anything. He could be a past associate that is trying to bring Luke back to the dark side.

Frank Whaley has been cast as Rafael Scarfe. Mavel described him as: “a hard-nosed NYPD detective who partners with Misty Knight in their Luke Cage investigation.”

Woodard-Cousin

Alfre Woodard will play Luke’s cousin- Mariah Dillard. Woodard has done a considerable amount of movies in the past. I know this is bad reference, but I remember her best from Star Trek First Contact.

Night Nurse Rosario

And yes, Rosario Dawson will be returning to her role that she played in Daredevil and in Jessica Jones as the Night Nurse, Claire Temple. The Night Nurse originally only had very minor connections to the Marvel Comic Book Universe. But the Daredevil Netflix series has established that Claire’s character is one of these Nurses or a combination of the three characters that appeared in the comic series. Regardless, I am so happy that they’re including her character and I’m even happier that Rosario will be returning to the role and will be in all of these series.

Defenders

Luke Cage is set to premiere on Netflix in 2016. I am so excited about this series. I can’t wait to see the team up with all the characters, including Punisher, Daredevil, Jewel and hopefully Iron Fist. I definitely can’t wait to see Luke and Iron Fist’s bromantic partnership flare up. Yep, I said it. Everyone who read their comics know that they had a very unique bond. What do you think of the cast?

Jem and the Holograms 6 IDW Comic Book Review.Movie_Snapshot

Jem and the Holograms #6 came out recently and it was pretty good. A great way to end the first story arc and I think this is a excellent comic book series in general. I can’t wait for the next story to begin and I think the creative team involved should continue on doing what they’re doing. Check out my thoughts on this issue below.

Hocus

What is the big appeal to the movie Hocus Pocus? By no means am I putting it down, I enjoyed it as a child and I have rewatched it as an adult. It was very entertaining. But I do not consider it a classic movie that I watch every Halloween. In fact, I think I’ve only seen this movie two times. What I don’t understand the most is that many gay men consider this a classic movie to watch every Halloween. Where is the gayness in this movie? Or is it just a movie that coincidentally has a gay following?

Hocus Pocus 1

The reason I bring this up is because today I have seen 8 people on my Facebook feed post about Hocus Pocus and that they are excited about not only watching the original Hocus Pocus and about a potential sequel in the works but also because of a Hocus Pocus live show on Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. Apparently this an actual show that was done at Walt Disney World. Which that I admit does sound cool.

Calm

But I still do not see the appeal in the movie. Maybe because I don’t get excited about Halloween as much as many of my friends do. I put on many costumes during the year for conventions and I consider Halloween more as a day to take it easy and let everyone else costume and show their talents. I usually end up watching -It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and pig out on Halloween candy that I don’t give to Trick-R-Treaters. Hey, you know that movie horror movie- Trick R Treat – is a pretty damn good movie.

Hocus Pocus 2

Anyways, I digress. Why do so many gay men love Hocus Pocus? I am legitimately asking. Again, I mean no disrespect, it is an entertaining movie. But I honestly do not see the big appeal about it. It’s definitely cute and very fun for kids. Is there something that I am missing as a gay man? Granted, I am sure not all gay men like this movie. It just seems as though a large majority do consider it a great flick that get very passionate about in their own way.

I had a lot of pics taken of me and pics that I took of others while I was at Dragon Con this past week. Some were professional pics too. There were two guys that I had the pleasure of taking my pics professional. One was Geeked Photography, which captured me in my Daredevil costume. And the other was Bokeh Photo, which got pics of me in my traditional costume of Robin. Some of their pics are below and I have to say that they’re pretty dang awesome!

I was also shown on the pages: GeekandSundry and on Blastr.com (page 7).

Dragon Con 2015 Intro (2).Movie_Snapshot

Dragon Con is not about Dragons. Some people make that mistake. It’s about the fans themselves. Whether you’re a costumer, or you’re there for celebrities, or maybe the panels. Everyone goes for a reason. Most of my friends are there for costuming reasons and we’re all fairly big into different geekdoms. Here’s our beginning journey to the Superbowl of Costuming Cons.
