Well damn. Numbers are what matters with any company and Iceman unfortunately did not have them. Iceman writer Sina Grace has posted that the Iceman solo series is coming to an end. He wrote a letter on his Facebook fanpage to let everyone know. This may seem like a small thing, as comic book titles come and go but it is quite sad to me. There are no ongoing mainstream comic book titles with a gay male superhero in the lead. This is the only one that Marvel has ever had. Northstar had a short limited series once. There have also been a few teams with LGBT representation. Wiccan and Hulkling are two of the more famous characters.

Unfortunately there has been a lot of hate for Iceman since he came out as a gay character. While true, some reviewers gave criticism on the story, many others criticized Iceman and many other Marvel titles as a “Social Justice Warrior” campaign. Some are even campaigning for Bobby to go back into the closet and become straight because they think that the teenage version of Jean Grey mind-raped teenage Bobby into being gay, and it affected his older counterpart. I doubt Marvel would go down that route, but it still is something that I have seen more than once on several other YouTube videos and on comic book forums. To add to this, the comic book – America is also on the chopping block. This is a title that has the first Latina queer character as the namesake of the series.

In the end, money is what keeps titles going, and Iceman just did not have the fan support. I do hope that Bobby Drake will be written well in the future. I’m already seeing haters rejoice making hateful and homophobic statements regarding Bobby’s character. All are saying that he should not have had a solo title and that Marvel should never ‘cater’ to a minority. Some of the homophobic comments I have read just today alone do hurt a lot. I know this is a comic book and does not matter in the scope of bigger things with life, but it is a comic book that was important to me. It was something I wanted to see since I was a kid and understood who I was.

Have you seen Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall (Hawk), and Minka Kelly who plays Dawn Granger (Dove) in the upcoming Titans TV series? Holy hell, these look great! They will be part paired with Ryan Potter who will be Beast Boy, while Anna Diop will play Starfire, and Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson / Robin. So far I am loving these costumes! They were designed by Laura Jean Shannon, who also helped with Black Lightning, Iron Man and The Jungle Book. What do you think?

Have you seen the CW Seed animated series – Freedom Fighters: The Ray? It is only 6 episodes of 6-8 min shorts, but it is so good! I may be biased being that it stars a gay superhero voiced by gay actor (and super hot) Russell Tovey, but it is a great series nonetheless. Check out my thoughts on this prequel series to the Crisis on Earth X CW Arrowverse TV crossover in the video attached.

I’m so excited for this! Netflix and Dreamworks Animation announced that there will be a new She-Ra cartoon set for Netflix in 2018. I’m a huge Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power fan. So this brings out the uber geek in me. There’s some other cartoons coming out too, which I’m not a fan of particularly, but I know others may be interested in them. These include:
Trolls: The Beat Goes On! (continuing after the movie), Boss Baby (also a continuation after the first film), Captain Underpants, Harvey Street Kids, and the third season of Trollhunters and the series called 3 Below, which is the second installment of Tales of Arcadia Trilogy. The site Variety gives the full details on the other shows.

Why is He-Man not getting his own show? Who knows? Maybe someone at Netflix said, let’s give his sister a chance. Or maybe there’s some movie idea being planned (yeah that’s been said for like 30 years). Or maybe he will be a re-occurring character on the show. Whenever I find out anything about She-Ra, I will immediately post about it. Currently the 1980s series is on Netflix, and I think I may re-watch a few episodes in the next couple of days.

Have you watched the Freedom Fighters: The Ray animated series on the CW Seed? It is only the first season of 6 shorts and each of the mini episodes are 6-8 mins long. Since I’m a huge Ray fan, I have been excited for this series to air ever since I heard it was being made. For clarity, I would have enjoyed it even if the main character of Raymond Terrill wasn’t being voiced by Russell Tovey.

It is a prequel series taking place before the Crisis on Earth X crossover series. I will do a video review on the series soon, but I just figured I would inform everyone in case anyone was not aware that it was out.

Check out the series for free over at the CW Seed at: www.CWSeed.com
There is also a message from the Trevor Project included that is presented by the Ray. I personally thought that in itself was great.

It looks promising. Similar premise with respect to being on the island with killer prehistoric creatures but different with the idea that they are this time trying to save the dinosaurs from the islands own volcanic issue explosions. What do you think of it?

Fox may be selling the X-Men movie rights to Disney, but their next installment of their X-Men series is underway. Over at Entertainment Weekly, they have the first images available. Not a lot to show, but we get to see Jennifer Lawrence in her new Mystique make up and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey all ‘Phoenix-y.’ Honestly I do hope that Mystique is downplayed a lot in this movie. It is hard for me to get past her basically being the leader of the X-Men.

Here are the other pics available. Check out the article at: EW.com

It’s comic book day!
Walking Dead #174 returns with a sympathetic look at Negan. Yes, seriously.
Amazing Spider-Man and Venom, Inc: Alpha – The battle for the symbiotes. Not exactly, but somewhat still accurate. Anything with Eddie Brock Venom is worth it.
Astonishing X-Men #6 – The war between Xavier and the Shadow King continue and comes to a head.
Captain America #696 – Cap vs. the Swordsman. Classic Cap is back and he’s showing how awesome he original was meant to be.
Spider-Man #235 – A new Sinister Six is forming and starting to make their move. Miles Morales has never faced them, but he will soon.
Superman #36 – Imperius Lex concludes with a predictable ending. However, Lex makes a move that was a bit unexpected…although I guess it is also predictable if you think about it.
Nightwing #34 – Nightwing vs. Raptor. A definitive winner emerges in this battle.
Batman #36 – The SuperFriends reunite! Well it’s just Superman and Batman, but still seeing their partners (wife/fiancée) making them contact each other is awesome.

The Manga series My Brother’s Husband, written by openly gay writer Gengoroh Tagame, and published by Futabasha in the magazine Monthly Action is getting the TV treatment. The Manga series is focused on Yaichi and Mike Flanagan. Yaichi is a single father, and Mike is the widowed husband to Yaichi’s recently deceased twin brother, Ryōji. Yaichi’s daughter is Kana, who has a much better and open mind to homosexual relationships than her closed minded father. However, as the series progresses, Yaichi starts to understand how his prejudices are misconceived.

This seems like it will be a great show that is not directly making a joke about same sex relationships. This show is directly confronting homophobia in a country that is moving more and more towards marriage equality. Hopefully it will be a hit.

The 3 episode mini series will be produced by Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation and air in March 2018. The show will star Ryuta Sato (Below Left) as Yaichi and Baruto Kaito (Below Right) as Mike. The Manga has been translated into English, so I am going to read all of these issues before and do a separate video on it before the TV series.
